Wind Turbine Generator Project

The Massachusetts Technology Collaborative Innovation Center (MTC) has approved the Large Onsite Renewables Initiative (LORI) grant application for the full amount for installation of a 600 KW wind turbine generator for Mark Richey Woodworking. Jon Abe will be the PM from the MTC for our project and will be sending an official notification in the upcoming weeks. In the meantime we will move forward with the application process for all the various permits needed. Newburyport Mayor John Moak and Massachusetts Representative Mike Costello have been extremely supportive of this project and instrumental in bringing it to fruition.

Wind power uses the force of the wind to drive a turbine that produces electricity. The wind turbine is connected to the electricity grid, thereby allowing excess energy to flow back to the electric company. It can replace high-cost fuels like natural gas. The 600 KW wind turbine we plan to use is especially suited for displacing high cost power at manufacturing, educational, municipal water treatment, and agricultural facilities.

Renewable energy has many benefits. Benefits include cleaner energy, reducing harmful air pollutants from power plants (mercury, soot, smog, and acid rain); protects natural areas from mining and oil drilling; reduces water pollution; does not disturb ongoing agricultural or forestry operations; and, produces zero emissions of CO2 or other greenhouse gasses and can replace sources with high greenhouse gas emissions. Modern turbines are quieter and turn more slowly, reducing threats to birds.
