Mark Richey Woodworking has been honored with a 2024 “Making it in Massachusetts” Manufacturing Award by the Massachusetts Legislative Manufacturing Caucus.
The Caucus held its awards at the Massachusetts Manufacturing Mash-up held at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.. on Sept. 25.
The award is given in recognition of outstanding leadership skills in the manufacturing industry and, according to the Caucus, awarded by legislators to manufacturers that propel their industry toward continued growth and innovation.
Based in Newburyport, Mass., Mark Richey Woodworking is an architectural millwork company. It provides high-end interiors and exteriors to companies, organizations, retailers and restaurants, and residences nationwide.
A 100-person company, it is perhaps best known for its green approach to manufacturing, utilizing onsite wind and solar to power and biomass to heat its expansive, high-tech woodshop. It is also the manufacturer of WallGoldfinger corporate furniture, and a minority- and woman-owned and certified business.
Formed in August 2014, the Manufacturing Caucus includes more than 60 legislators from around the state. Lawmakers focus on training for manufacturing employees, encouraging innovation by helping start-ups access resources, and expanding apprenticeship opportunities in key manufacturing sectors. The Caucus is chaired by Rep. Jeffrey N. Roy (D-Franklin) and Sen. Paul R. Feeney (D-Foxborough).
"Manufacturing is an economic engine in Massachusetts, and today's event underscores that we are firing on all cylinders," said Senate President Karen E. Spilka (D-Ashland). "Our manufacturers are creating products that are changing the game in industries like healthcare, green technology, and transportation. The result is innovative and socially responsible products, while providing good, high-paying jobs for residents right here in Massachusetts."
"From groundbreaking work in the life sciences industry, to unparalleled innovation in the production of renewable energy, to the development of game changing technology across so many sectors of our economy, Massachusetts has a manufacturing industry to be incredibly proud of," said House Speaker Ronald J. Mariano (D-Quincy).
“Manufacturing in the Commonwealth provides high-paying jobs, contributes significantly to the state’s economy, and plays a vital role in driving innovation and technological advancements,” said State Representative Jeffrey N. Roy (D-Franklin), House Chair of the Legislature’s Manufacturing Caucus. “Manufacturing output here is at its highest level in history and accounts for about 10 percent of the state’s economy and employs about 6 percent of the workforce with $56 billion in manufactured goods exported from the Commonwealth each year.
“Today, we are proud to honor these companies and meet the dedicated men and women who make our economy soar and contribute to these statistics. These manufacturers are examples of what is means to make it in Massachusetts.”
In all, 58 manufacturers from across the state were recognized. Mark Richey Woodworking was selected for the Manufacturer of the Year award in its region by state Rep. Dawne Shand (D-Newburyport).
