421 Park Drive 4th Floor Lobby

Mark Richey Woodworking worked with Suffolk Construction to bring IA Interior Architects vision for sculptural, multi-use furniture to life in a 4^th floor lobby at 421 Park Drive, Life Science building in Boston for Alexandria Real Estate Equities.

Crafted from primarily stacked laminated solid white oak aresculptural forms that serve as benches, tables, and planters – sometimes all atonce. A reception desk adds in poured concrete with the flowing wooden transactioncounter. Booths have engineered stone. Planters have waterproof lines. Walls,which also span to the first and second floors, are solid white oak tambour inmultiple profiles, rift white oak veneer panels, and a variety of custom and decorativeblack metals. Stair treads are also oak as are built in bookcases. Perimetertrim on ceiling “clouds” feature bent laminated solid white oak with everypiece being a unique shape.

Mark Richey Woodworking was able to create the mostly woodenstructures with complex curves by laying up solid wood; cutting out shapes onthe CNC machine; sanding and labeling each narrow, cut shape; precisely attachingeach of those pieces to a rib structure; finishing; and then assemblingsections on site.
